Free Heri Heri For All is an initiative by KIP Republic in collaboration with several organisations and partners.

Free Heri Heri For All invites the entire country to eat the Surinamese dish Heri Heri together on July 1st to commemorate and celebrate the abolition of the trans-atlantic slave trade in the Dutch Kingdom.

Free Heri Heri For All aims to create awareness around the Commemoration of June 30th and Celebration of July 1st 1863. By bringing people together on these days, we aim to activate dialogue and have conversation about our colonial heritage.

Launched in 2020 as a response to the shut downs caused by the pandemic and inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement we decided that despite all the restrictions at the time, we needed to find a way to still bring people together on July 1st and keep awareness on this specific commemorative day.

Free Heri Heri For All has nationwide distribution points in different cities. See here for a full list of our partners locations where you could easily pick up a meal.
